The Rhineland marketplace is dedicated to the second half of the 20th century. It shows the urbanization of rural areas combined with the dissolution of traditional rural townscapes.

The events in the open-air museum

In more than 90 events, you can take an exciting look at life in the Rhineland over the past centuries and experience up close how people worked and celebrated in the past. Here you will find exciting and informative offers, from exhibition openings and workshops for children and adults to festivals and markets lasting several days.

Event Highlights

Come, be amazed, have fun: a journey through the history of popular entertainment. For the first time: long fairground nights until 10 p.m. on 14./15. April.
April 4th to 16th annual fair Children's carousel and chain carousel
The year 1972 offers so much again: Watergate, Olympic Games in Munich, the first episode of Star Trek is shown on German television.... photo exhibition, show, dance, vintage car meet and parade through the site, great bands, history trail and historic campsite are waiting for you!
19 & 20 August time shutter 1972 Old VW bus at a campsite
Draft horses and oxen, teams, vintage tractors and old agricultural machinery used in agriculture and forestry, traditional work on farms and in village workshops, large farmer's market
September 16 & 17 After the harvest Large horses pull a cart across a dusty road
Old and new apple varieties, dehydration, sort determination, apple dishes, hands-on juice presses and much more
October 8 Apple Day Lots of apples in baskets
Getting in the mood for Christmas with prints and traditional pastries from the museum ovens, arts and crafts, music, stories, lanterns - guided tours and productions on the history of the Christmas tree
