Digital portal everyday cultures in the Rhineland - change in rural areas

1900-2000 In the archives of the three participating LVR cultural institutions (LVR Open-Air Museum Lindlar, LVR Open-Air Museum Kommern and LVR Institute for Regional Studies and Regional History) slumbers a fascinating inventory of very different sources on everyday life in a region: photos, films, interview recordings and thousands of objects from From tools to complete kitchen furnishings.
In a pilot project funded by the German Research Foundation from 2013 to 2017, these holdings, which were not systematically indexed, were digitized and linked with one another in a thematic selection in order to make them accessible to the public.
Parallel to this database , in which research can now be carried out, the thematic part of the portal "Everyday Cultures in the Rhineland" was created, in which it is shown in an exemplary manner how the change in rural areas from 1900 to 2000 can be recorded through a comparative analysis of the different sources. The results are now available to science and the public for the first time.
