a group of people looks at a half-timbered house

General guidance

The participants learn interesting facts about the living and working conditions of the rural population and the last 500 years of everyday Rhenish history. On the map of the grounds near the ticket office, the guide introduces the sponsor and the history of the museum. Four regional assemblies show farmhouses, stables, barns and other storage buildings, workshops, but also windmills, a water-powered sawmill, a village school and a community bakery. The fifth historical building block, "Rheinland Market Square", which is constantly under construction, deals with the more recent past after 1945. On the museum trail, selected buildings and courtyard ensembles of the 79 structures that have been rebuilt so far are explored in their natural surroundings.
