Fresh fish - Fresh fish! Nutrition during Lent

March 8 & 9, 2025, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
During the 40-day fasting period before Easter, people had to change their diet according to liturgical rules. People ate a maximum of one proper meal a day and abstained from meat. Fish was often eaten instead.
You can find out exactly what this change meant and how people in the 19th century prepared their food according to special fasting recipes from our housekeepers at the Haus aus Kessenich in the Eifel building group. They will be scaling and processing a whole carp including offal according to 19th century recipes.
The event is included in museum admission. Please buy an admission ticket for the museum on site at the ticket office or in the webshop.
